Couple in their 70s airlifted from Mansfield crash

A man has handed himself into police following a crash in Mansfield yesterday that saw a couple in their 70s airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe a black Toyota LandCruiser towing a trailer with a green ski boat overtook a red Toyota LandCruiser towing a Scenic Galaxy caravan on Mansfield-Woods Point Road about 11.15am yesterday.

“It’s believed the red LandCruiser then left the roadway and burst into flames,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The male driver of the car, a 73-year-old Weir Views man and his female passenger, a 71-year-old Weir Views woman received serious injuries and were air-lifted to hospital.”

The pair remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“The 37-year-old man from Wharparilla self-presented to police this morning, he has since been released pending further enquiries,” police said.

Investigators are also appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or any other information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
