Coffs man banned from driving until 2052 is caught by police

A 51-year-old Coffs Harbour man disqualified from driving until 2052 has been arrested in a shocking incident in the north coast city.

Police say that at around 9pm on Thursday, November 19, officers were conducting stationary breath testing in Coffs Harbour when a silver Honda CRV failed to stop at the site when directed.

Officers pursued the vehicle, however the driver failed to stop despite the activation of the police vehicle lights and sirens.

Police were then forced to deploy road spikes to stop the vehicle.

After the car was disabled using the road spikes, police say the driver ran from the vehicle. Several other police were called in, with the man eventually apprehended after a pursuit on foot.

The driver was conveyed to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and class A m/v exceed speed > 45 km/h.

A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested following a search, where police located prohibited drugs on their person.
