Charges laid over fatal crash near Mudgee

A man has been charged over a fatal crash in the state’s Central West that occurred earlier this year.

At around 2pm on Friday April 5th, emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a ute and an SUV on the Castlereagh Highway, Aarons Pass, approximately 40km south of Mudgee.

A 32-year-old woman, who was a front-seat passenger in the SUV, was critically injured. She was taken to Mudgee Hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger in the ute, a 68-year-old man, were seriously injured and airlifted to Westmead Hospital. The older man remains in hospital.

Two girls, aged two and four, who were back seat passengers in the SUV, were taken by road ambulance to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition where they have since been released.

The driver of the ute, aged 55, was taken to Mudgee Hospital with minor injuries and for mandatory testing.

The driver of the ute has now been served a Court Attendance Notice for seven offences including:

  • Dangerous driving occ death-drive manner dangerous
  • Negligent driving (occasioning death)
  • Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle
  • Dangerous driving occasioning GBH- drive manner dangerous x 2
  • Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm) x 2

He is due to appear at Mudgee Local Court on September 10th. The Mount Druitt man’s drivers licence has been suspended.
