Queensland aged care resident, Hilda Walter, has celebrated her 103rd birthday.
Hilda marked the very special occasion at a local nursery with her daughter, Narelle, son-in-law, Don, and friends from Arcare Slacks Creek.
“It was a lovely birthday trip to the nursery and I feel very happy about it. I enjoy being outdoors among the fresh air,” Hilda said.

The celebration included an outdoor afternoon tea with cakes from Lorikeet Café at the Nielsen’s Native Nursery.
“Hilda is the oldest client within our Arcare Slacks Creek community and we wanted to organise something special for her to celebrate this milestone. It was also great to have Hilda’s family and friends there to share in this special occasion,” Arcare Lifestyle Coordinator, Mary said.
Growing up in Indooroopilly, Brisbane, Hilda has always been an avid gardener.
“We used to garden a lot; we grew our own flowers and vegetables and I enjoyed picking them. Our garden was small, but we used up every space that we had. I had 90 roses at one point,” said Hilda.

Hilda says she maintained an active lifestyle and would fill her weekends with gardening,
tennis and walking – all of which might have contributed to her birthday milestone.
“I feel very lucky to have turned 103 years old; I live a normal life and I just take it one day at a time,” the birthday girl said.
