Boys – aged 11 and 12 – threaten pregnant woman with knife

A 12-year-old boy and two other boys aged just 9 and 11 have been charged over a shocking Sydney crime spree that included allegedly threatening a pregnant woman with a knife before stealing the mum-to-be’s car.

Police allege the trio began their criminal misadventure by stealing the keys to a Holden Barina in North Parramatta around 6pm on Saturday.

“Shortly before 6am the following day, the 12-year-old boy allegedly drove the vehicle with the two other boys inside, and narrowly missed three people watching the sunrise in the carpark of a reserve at Carlingford,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Police will allege they travelled through numerous Sydney suburbs committing further offences, including the theft of a mobility scooter which was being ridden by a man, theft from retail stores, and two fail-to-stop crashes, before dumping the stolen Barina in Market Street, Sydney, about 11am on Sunday.

“Later that day, while running from the scene of an alleged attempted stealing at a convenience store, the nine-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle on Victoria Road, West Ryde,” police said.

The two other boys, aged 11 and 12, ran from the scene.

The younger boy was taken by ambulance to The Children’s Hospital in Westmead in a stable condition suffering from leg injuries, cuts, abrasions and a fractured eye socket.

“About 3.45am on Monday 1 March 2021, police will allege a 15-year-old boy stole keys to a Hyundai Accent during an aggravated break and enter at a home on Ancona Avenue, Toongabbie,” police said.

“About 4am, the Hyundai was involved in a short pursuit with police in Budgaree Road, Toongabbie. Over the following hours, the vehicle was seen driving erratically and at high-speed throughout surrounding suburbs of Toongabbie.

“Despite a co-ordinated response by specialist units and officers from Police Area Command’s across North-West and South-West Metropolitan Regions, the Hyundai could not be located.”

Police say their crime spree continued yesterday, when at around 10.30am, the two non-injured boys – aged 11 and 12 – allegedly threatened a 29-year-old pregnant woman with a knife and stole her Mazda 3 that was parked in a carpark at Pendle Hill.

Police responded and located the stolen Hyundai a short distance away, however, were unable to find the boys or the Mazda 3.

The boys were arrested yesterday afternoon and taken to Parramatta Police Station where they were charged with a range of offences including police pursuit, aggravated robbery, dangerous driving, armed robbery, assault with intent to rob, and stealing motor vehicles.

They were all refused bail and will appear in a children’s court today.
