A teenage boy has been charged over the stabbing of a 51-year-old man during a break and enter at a home in Tamworth earlier this week.
Police say that shortly after midnight on Wednesday, emergency services were called to a home at Bowdens Lane in Tamworth following reports of a break and enter and stabbing.
“Police were told a group of males entered the home, before stabbing the occupant and stealing personal items,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The group were last seen fleeing the home in a stolen VW Polo, which was later found partially burnt out at Coledale.
“Upon arrival, officers attached to Oxley Police District located a 51-year-old man with a stab wound to his abdomen and injuries to his hands.”
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Tamworth Base Hospital in a stable condition.
Police say a 13-year-old boy was located hiding inside the Bowdens Lane home and was arrested.
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – armed, and breach of bail.
The teenage boy appeared at a children’s court the same day, where he was granted conditional bail and will next appear on December 7.
As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information, or dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
