Hills Shire library members with overdue library books and resources can now return them to their local branch with a non-perishable food item and have their library fines waived.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said this was a great way to give back and to also return library resources so that others could access them again.
“Christmas is a time for giving, and this year I’m encouraging library members – if they are in a position to do so – to donate to this wonderful initiative, even if they don’t have an overdue library resource to give back,” Mayor Byrne said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many people and this includes physically, mentally and financially.
“Our Library Fine Amnesty is a great way to make this Christmas a special one, especially for those needing that extra bit of support,” Mayor Byrne added.
Library Fine Amnesty will run until Sunday, December 12. Donations will be given to Anglicare – a charity that provides a range of services that promotes safety, participation and wellbeing – for their Mobile Community Pantry.
Items to consider for donation include:
- Christmas cake or pudding (500g or 700g)
- Tinned ham (450g)
- Tinned Salmon (415g)
