The body of a 60-year-old man missing since last week when his empty boat washed ashore at Bermagui has been located on the NSW Far South Coast.
Police say that at around 3.15pm last Tuesday, emergency services were called to Haywards Beach, near Tilba Road, Bermagui, following reports a boat had washed ashore.
“Officers from the South Coast Police District responded and commenced a search of the water and surrounding area, with assistance from Marine Area Command, Surf Life Savers, State Emergency Services and the Westpac Helicopter,” NSW Police said in a statement.
Despite an extensive search of the water and surrounding land, the 60-year-old man from Victoria was not located, and the search was suspended two days later.
At around 5.30pm yesterday, the body of a man was located in the water at Haywards Beach, Bermagui.
He is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be that of the missing man, said NSW Police.
