Bodies of missing fisherman found

An upturned boat and the bodies of three missing fisherman have been recovered in a sea search near Wollongong.

NSW Police say three men were on board a boat that left Bellambi boat ramp at 2pm on Saturday. Family members alerted police at 6am on Sunday, when the trio did not return as scheduled.

“The men’s utility and boat trailer were found in the boat ramp car park,” police said in a statement.

Officers from Wollongong Police District, Marine Area Command and PolAir, along with members of Surf Life Saving NSW and Marine Rescue volunteer crews from Port Kembla and Shellharbour, conducted a search for the men.

“The upturned boat was located off Port Kembla and the bodies of three men have since been recovered. They are yet to be formally identified,” police said.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
