Ballina band turns 140

Ballina Shire Concert Band is turning 140 years old. To celebrate the impressive milestone, they are hosting a special anniversary concert for the community at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre on Saturday, May 6th.

The concert will celebrate the current band and acknowledge its proud history by featuring music and memorabilia from 1883 to 2023.

“The Ballina Shire Concert Band has been a regular performer at many local Ballina Shire community events and commemorations,” said Ballina Shire Concert Band President, Dick McCoy.

“The band started with just 10 members in 1883 and today has over 35 active members ranging in age from 12 to 94. We come together every Wednesday evening to celebrate our collective passion for music.

Past band members and associates are being invited to share in the celebration and are encouraged to register their interest. The band is also seeking information about its history for a memorabilia display.

“If you have any old photos, competition trophies, stories, or other relevant memorabilia you can contribute, the band would love to hear from you at ballinaband140th@gmail.com. New members are also welcome.”

Tickets are on sale now, with general admission tickets $25, concession tickets $20, and children under 14 only $10. Visit communityspaces.com.au/tickets
