Ballarat shelter seeking homes for more than 60 dogs

Ballarat Animal Shelter is calling on locals to consider rehoming a dog into their household, with the shelter currently playing home to 63 canines.

To continue the high level of care that the shelter provides for all the animals in the facility, the shelter would love to see some of these dogs rehomed, City of Ballarat Council said in a statement.

Over the last financial year, the Shelter facilitated the adoption of 164 dogs and 44 puppies.

“Due to the overwhelming demand at the Animal Shelter, the staff at the shelter have been behind on uploading the dog’s bios onto the Pet Rescue website, but there is everything from a Stag mix to a purebred Labrador ready for a new home,” Council said in a statement.

“Why not consider social butterfly, Rosie, a bouncy Staffy, who adores people and loves daily exercise, who has unfortunately made the shelter her home for more than five months?

“Or Stormy, a 4-year-old mixed breed who has been in the shelter since July. She will take a few moments to warm up to you, but then will enjoy plenty of cuddles.

“If you are after an easygoing dog, why not Ali? An 8-year-old kelpie mix who is very calm and loves people. She would be suited to almost any type of home, as long as she gets her daily walk.”

There is a rehoming fee of $410 for all dogs at the Animal Shelter.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Daniel Moloney says a dog is a terrific addition to every household.

“A few years ago we introduced a former racing greyhound into our household and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Damo the dog is now a much-loved part of our family,” he said.

“Why not add a furry friend to your life today? The experienced team at the Animal Shelter can help you find the right dog for your lifestyle, and you can be a part of improving a dog’s life.”
