Police have slammed the brakes on a 17-year-old P-plater caught doing 163km in an 80km/h zone on the Great Western Highway at Prospect.
“About 8.50pm on Friday, officers attached to Cumberland Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement along the Great Western Highway, Prospect, when they detected a silver BMW sedan allegedly travelling at 163km/h in an 80km/h zone,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The 17-year-old male driver from Merrylands was stopped further down the Great Western Highway, police said.
“He provided a P1 licence – which had only been issued 12 days prior to the arrest – which restricts him to a maximum of 90km/h.”
“He was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for drive speed dangerous, and class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h.”
Police suspended the driver’s provisional P1 licence on the spot; however, the car could not be seized as he was not the legal owner, they said.
The teen will appear at Parramatta Local Court on August 3.
