Over 75s wanted for sunshine state heat survey

Extreme heat kills more people in Australia than any other natural disaster.

In the sunshine state, high temperatures cause the loss of over 100 lives each year.

Without taking the right steps to protect ourselves and keep our homes cool, extreme heat can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Although heat can impact anyone’s health, people over the age of 65 are at an increased risk.

At Griffith University, researchers for the Ethos project are developing an in-home system to protect older people during extreme heat. As part of this project, they are conducting a state-wide survey to understand people’s personal views on heat and health, how you protect yourself during extreme heat and how you use digital technology.

If you are over the age of 75 and living in Queensland, you’re invited to complete a 30-minute paper-based survey by the 15th of November 2022.

Don’t use digital technology? No worries – your views are just as important, and the researchers would love to hear from you. By participating, you will also go into a draw to win one of five $100 retail vouchers!

If you are interested in being involved, email the research team at ethos@griffith.edu.au or call the team on (07) 5552 7903.
