Victoria records NO cases, NO deaths – but state is still closed for business

Victoria has recorded no new COVID-19 cases and no deaths overnight, prompting a call from Melbourne mayor, Sally Capp for Premier Daniel Andrews to provide to clarity and certainty for residents today.

“We’re delighted with those outcomes,” the Mayor told the Today show.

But, she says, unfortunately business conference is extremely fragile, after Daniel Andrews failure to meet expectations of an easing of restrictions on Melbourne homes and businesses yesterday.

“Every single day counts including days to prepare, days to get staff organised, days to make orders with suppliers,” said Ms Capp.

“Clarity and certainty are what people are looking for… and we’re hoping we see more of that today.”

She said Victorians had adhered to the restrictions and prioritised the state’s health response for weeks.

“But increasingly as time goes on, people feel that we deserve to be trusted. We deserve that sense of more detail of when and how we’re going to reopen.”

She said Mr Andrews’ “cautious pause” announcement yesterday had deflated the community at a time when momentum had been growing.

“That was very deflating yesterday but there’s good results overnight and a sense of confidence about our contact tracing system and a sense of how we’re going to live with the virus going forward – with a focus on hot spots instead of shutting everything down.”
