NSW cases drop below 1,000 for first time since August 27

NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian has warned against complacency as the state recorded triple digit case figures today.

It’s the first time that new daily COVID-19 case numbers – 935 – have dropped below the 1,000 mark since August 27.

The Premier warned NSW residents not “to read too much into it” saying she was not yet willing to say that the state had peaked.

“Even if the case numbers go down, we should expect unfortunately that the number of people in intensive care and the number of people who lose their lives to go up,” the Premier said.

“We need to continue to brace ourselves for October being the worst month for the number of people who pass away and the number of people who need intensive care. We should never lose sight of that.”

Of today’s four deaths, two were south western Sydney men aged in their 60s. The third was a Wollongong woman in her 80s. And finally, a western sydney man aged in his 80s – he is the second death linked to the outbreak at Penrith’s Uniting Edinglassie Lodge Residential Aged Care Facility.
