An 83-year-old woman has died after a crash between a vehicle and a country passenger train in the state’s Central West this afternoon.
Police say that at around 5.25pm today, emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving a Honda Jazz car and a train at a level crossing on Old Gostwyck Road, Armidale.
“The 83-year-old female driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries at the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement this evening.
“Officers from New England Police District attended, secured a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
“There were no reports of any persons on the train suffering any injuries.”
The roadway and rail line are expected to remain closed until at least later this evening. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
