Woman, 63, dies in Sunshine Coast floodwaters

Police are investigating the death of a 63-year-old woman after her vehicle was discovered submerged in floodwaters at Belli Park, Sunshine Coast, this morning.

Police say that at around 4:45am, emergency services received a report of a vehicle submerged in floodwaters at Skyring Creek Road.

“Emergency services were initially unable to access the vehicle due to fast-rising floodwaters but were able to locate and access the submerged Honda CRV just after 8am,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“The sole passenger of the vehicle, a 63-year-old Belli Park woman, was located deceased inside the vehicle.”

Police have confirmed at least 10 other people are unaccounted for across the region, which has received 408mm of rain this morning.

Authorities have issued an urgent plea to motorists not to drive through flooded roads.
