Taking a second shot at love

Two resident homeowners of Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village in Baldivis, south of Perth, have had a second chance at love, showing that love has no age limits for Valentine’s Day.

A study from the University of Bath in the UK recently found that over 60s have 1-in-562 chance of stumbling upon love. Interestingly, research further revealed that if you act proactively and take steps to meet new people, you will improve your odds of finding love after 60.

Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village is part of the National Lifestyle Village communities owned and operated by Serenitas.

It offers over 50s homeowners’ facilities and activities to enhance their wellbeing and lifestyle and the social nature of the community means their odds of finding love later in life is potentially increased.

Homeowner, Tom Totten moved into the village 12 years ago with his wife, who sadly passed away on a holiday in Europe in 2020.

Similarly, Barbara’s husband passed away just before she moved into the village seven years ago.

With both single and a love for life they are now coming up to their two-year anniversary just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“In the two years since we’ve been together, we have seen each other every single day without fail and yet we have never had an argument,” says Tom.

“She knows what I like, and I know what she likes. We have no interest in getting married or moving in together and are quite happy with our own time but really cherish the time we do share together.”

The couple play bingo and bowls, participate in the village happy hour, and often stay at each other houses. It’s the perfect mix of being with friends and each other, they both say.
