Simply the best… Tina Turner dies aged 83

Tributes are flowing for music icon, Tina Turner, who has passed away peacefully at her home near Zurich, Switzerland, after a long illness.

She was ‘Simply the Best’, one of the biggest recording artists of all time, known for hits like ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’, and ‘Private Dancer’.

Her longtime publicist, Bernard Doherty informed the world of her passing in a statement. 

“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” he said. 

Tributes from the music world have flooded onto social media since the news of her passing broke.

Sir Mick Jagger wrote on Instagram: “I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer”.

“She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous,” Jagger wrote on Twitter. “She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.”

Bette Midler said Turner would now be performing “lead” vocals for the “flights of angels sing her to her rest”.

Angela Bassett, who played the role of the legendary singer in the film, ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’, shared a statement with the Hollywood Reporter.

“I am honored to have known Tina Turner,” she said.

“I am humbled to have helped show her to the world. So on today, while we mourn the loss of this iconic voice and presence, she gave us more than we could have ever asked. She gave us her whole self. And Tina Turner is a gift that will always be ‘simply the best.’ Angels, sing thee to thy rest … Queen.”

Sir Elton John described Turner as a “total legend on record and on stage”.

“We have lost one of the word’s most exciting and electric performers. A total legend on record and on stage. She was untouchable,” Sir Elton wrote.

“Condolences to Erwin and her family. The saddest news.”
