Search widens for missing woman

Victoria Police and emergency services are continuing their search for missing 51-year-old Ballarat East woman, Samantha Murphy.

She was last seen leaving her property (pictured) on Eureka Street to go for a run at around 7am Sunday.

“Police with the assistance of a number of emergency services have been searching the Canadian Forest area,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“Following further investigation into the area Samantha was running, Police have today been searching the nearby Mount Helen area to the East of Geelong Road.”

The search includes members of Police Search and Rescue, Uniform members, Mounted Branch, Canine Unit, SES and CFA.

Investigators have also released updated CCTV footage of Samantha in the hope that someone can provide information on her whereabouts.

The footage was captured at about 7:16am on Eureka Street near the intersection of Warrenheip Road and captures Samantha running in a north easterly direction toward Yankee Flat Road.

Investigators would like residents in the above areas to review their CCTV footage between 7:00am and 11:00am to check for sightings of the missing woman.

“Items located today during the search for Samantha have been assessed and at this time are not believed to be related to her whereabouts,” Police said.

“Police and family have concerns for Samantha’s welfare due to the length of time she has been missing and her disappearance being out of character.”

She is described as Caucasian, about 173cms tall with a slim build and shoulder-length blonde hair.

Samantha was last seen wearing black half-length leggings and a maroon/brown coloured singlet (pictured).

Anyone who sights Samantha is urged to contact 000 immediately.
