A fire at a property on the state’s Mid North Coast has led to the discovery of a cannabis crop worth around $6 million.
Police say that at around 1.20pm yesterday, emergency services were called to a rural property on Willi Willi Road, Turners Flat, after reports of a large amount of smoke.
“Upon arrival, crews from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Rural Fire Service and National Parks and Wildlife Service attended to contain a blaze, which had spread into nearby bushland,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Police observed several greenhouses on the property which were found to contain an estimated 2,000 cannabis plants varying in maturity.
“The estimated potential street value of the plants located is around $6 million.”
Further officers have been deployed today to dismantle the hydroponic setup. Police say the plants will be seized and destroyed.
An investigation into the hydroponic setup has commenced, anyone with information is urged to contact Port Macquarie Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
