A new Act is being introduced in response to a recommendation by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, the Department of Health and Aged Care announced today.
The Department says the new Act will put the rights and needs of older people at the centre of aged care.
“It will change how aged care services are delivered to older people in their homes, community settings and residential care homes,” it said.
The Department is seeking feedback on the draft law from everyone with an interest in aged care, including:
- older people, their families and carers
- aged care providers
- aged care workers
