Ku-ring-gai Spring flower celebration set to bloom

Shoppers are set to enjoy a vibrant showcase of potted colour at the South Turramurra and Roseville town centres, as part of this year’s Spring Flower Celebration.

From 1 September, around 100 pots containing flowers such as marigolds and dianthus will be installed at the centres.

This year, six large feature pots – which will include small trees alongside flowers – have been painted by South Turramurra artist and centre worker, Merie Botes and students from Roseville Public School.

The Roseville display will be focussed on centre areas near Roseville railway station, while the South Turramurra display will focus on the suburb’s Kissing Point Rd centre.

Ms Botes has painted two of the South Turramurra feature pots for free. The pots feature colourful representations of local flora, such as Wattle and Waratah and birds such as Rainbow Lorikeets, Regent Honeyeaters and Superb Fairy Wren.

“As a local acrylic artist, I’m thrilled to be working with Ku-ring-gai Council to bring a splash of colour to the community this spring,” Ms Botes said.

“My work is all about capturing the vibrant, light-filled scenes of our local community that everyone recognises. It was therefore a pleasure to contribute to our shared public space and celebrate the beauty of our most colourful native fauna and flora through art.”

Once the display is complete, the plants will be provided to Plant Rescue Ku-ring-gai to re-home within the community.

Residents can share their images of the Spring Flower Celebration on social media using the hashtag #krgspringflowers

The display will be in place for up to eight weeks, depending on weather conditions.
