A Cairnlea woman has taken a Victoria Environment Protection Authority (EPA) litter fine to court, only to wind up paying the fine plus legal costs.
The case followed a report from a member of the public that they had seen the woman drop a plastic or glass bottle from a car in Station Rd, Deer Park in July last year.
The witness told the EPA that the driver was alone in the vehicle, when the bottle was thrown from the driver’s window and appeared to bounce on the ground.
The EPA issued the woman with an infringement notice, and she exercised her right to have the matter heard in court.
The woman pleaded guilty in the Sunshine Magistrate’s Court and was fined $330.00 and ordered to pay legal costs of $138.59.
