Bold book launch for Orange seniors

Orange City Library will this week host a visit by Julie Ankers, author of Bold, Brave & (bloody) Brilliant, a series of inspiring stories from people aged over 50.

Ms Ankers will be in Orange on Friday, April 23, to talk about her latest book, the third in a trilogy on life in the 50+ years, as well as hosting a motivating and insightful workshop.

The entrepreneur, author, facilitator and life coach ran a speakers and trainers bureau for almost 30 years, and also developed a company focusing on training mature age workers and building age-inclusive workforces.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said Julie’s passion was promoting and developing people.

“This, as well as reaching her own half century, kick-started her interest in the over 50s which has now resulted in three powerful books,” Cr Kidd said.

“Come along and meet Julie and be inspired for your life after turning 50.”

In Bold, Brave & (bloody) Brilliant, the subjects offer intriguing insights into their lives and what keeps them motivated. The stories paint an inspiring picture of what it’s like living life aged over 50 and what shines through is the joy of being alive, ‘following your bliss’ and making the most of every day.

Ms Ankers will talk about her book at 1pm at the library. Bookings can be made online via Eventbrite or by calling the library on 6393 8132.

Prior to the author talk, Ms Ankers will host the ‘Your Life by Design’ workshop, guiding participants to evaluate the life they had pre-COVID and introducing them to strategies to make positive change.

The workshop will help attendees:

  • Understand the concept Wheel of Life;
  • Evaluate areas of your life using self-reflection;
  • Join the dots to reveal areas that are positive and those that need improvement;
  • Acknowledge and appreciate what is working well;
  • Develop strategies to improve your quality of life.

The ‘Your Life by Design’ workshop will be held from 9.30am to 11.30am in the West Room, next door to Orange City Library.

The workshop is free but places are limited. Book online via Eventbrite or call 6393 8132.

More about the book:

In Bold, Brave & (bloody) Brilliant!, the writers offer intriguing insights into their lives and what keeps them motivated. The stories paint an inspiring picture of what it’s like living today as a thirdager … learning flamenco and immersion in all things Spanish, rediscovering a love of maths and physics online, a lifelong passion for singing, the creative arts and new challenges, a deep commitment to our First Nations Peoples, demonstrating indomitability when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges – from financial ruin to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Bold, Brave & (bloody) Brilliant! is the third book in a trilogy on life in the 50+ years. The first in the series was Feisty, Fabulous & 50+, a collection of 21 ‘warts and all’ autobiographical stories of women navigating their way through their 50s and beyond. This was followed by CALL ME FRANK, 20 autobiographical stories of men over 50 telling it like it is at this stage in their lives.
