Beloved TV cop passes away at age 94

Much-loved Australian television cop, Brian Wenzel, has passed away at the age of 94.

It is understood Mr Wenzel, who is best known for his role as country cop, Frank Gilroy, in the popular TV show A Country Practice which screened between 1981 and 1993, died in a South Australian nursing home just weeks before he was to celebrate his 95th birthday on May 24.

“It is with great sadness that we remember the life of beloved Australian actor Brian Wenzel,” his agent Jennifer Hennessy said in a statement today.

“His iconic and revered performances spanned multiple Australian generations with his wit and humour shining through to the end.

“A passionate family man and devoted Carlton supporter leaves an irreplaceable mark on the Australian film and television industry,” she said.

Mr Wenzel, who began his acting career at the age of just 17, also appeared in the hit 80s Channel Nine show, The Young Doctors.
