Are you a tech savvy Senior?

Cessnock City Council is offering free technology classes for Seniors.

The Tech Savvy Senior workshops will be held at Cessnock and Kurri Kurri Libraries.

Members of the community are invited to join one of the small, friendly workshops supported by expert library staff, Council said in a statement.

“Learn new skills to help you get connected and take the first step to becoming tech savvy by mastering your smartphone, iPad, social media, videocalling, online shopping and more,” Council said.

The workshops are on at Kurri Kurri Library on Tuesdays from 18 May and Cessnock Library on Thursdays from 20 May.

The two-hour workshops aim to help seniors unlock the capability of their Apple, Samsung and Android smart phones and iPads.

The teacher will be popular local tech communicator and expert, Jess Jones of DotJess.

Library Services Co-ordinator, Rose-marie Walters is encouraging local seniors to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

“These workshops are for people who may have a smartphone but don’t realise that it is more than just about making phone calls – it is really a computer that you hold with your hands,” she said.

“You can run programs and games, access the internet, send email and much more.

“It’s about teaching you that technology isn’t terrifying or to be avoided, but can be an incredibly useful tool when you have the skills to get the most out your device.”

Bookings are essential. You can book online at http://bit.ly/cessnockcitylibrary, through the event listing on the ‘Cessnock City Library’ Facebook page or by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399 or Kurri Kurri Library on 4937 1638 to book your spot.
