A Sydney woman has been charged with defrauding a not-for-profit cancer organisation to the tune of $27,000.
Police say that in June this year, officers from Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports an organisation on Missenden Road, Camperdown, had been defrauded by a then employee.
Following extensive inquiries, a woman was arrested at Newtown Police Station yesterday.
The Harrington Park woman was charged with three counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
Police will allege in court the woman faked an illness while employed by the organisation between 2017 and 2020, in order to claim benefits including sick leave and sick leave pay, which totalled $27,000.
It will be further alleged that due to her illness, an additional employee was hired to directly assist her in completing work duties, costing the organisation almost $89,000.
She was granted conditional bail to appear before Newtown Local Court on November 3.
