Woman charged for not wearing mask and refusing to give details

A 56-year-old woman will face court after she allegedly failed to comply with current Directions earlier today in the Adelaide Hills by not wearing a face mask while shopping.

Police say that just before 11.30am, patrols were called to a supermarket in Littlehampton after a woman was spotted by staff shopping while not wearing a mask.

“The woman allegedly continued to shop when staff had asked her to wear a mask,” SA Police said in a statement.

“Police arrived a short time later and spoke to the woman at length explaining the Direction and the requirement to wear a mask in shared indoor public places.”

“Police will allege the woman then refused to provide her details and following several warnings, she was arrested for failing to state her name and address.”

The 56-year-old from Strathalbyn was charged with failing to comply with a direction and refusing to state her name and address. She has been bailed to appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 25 August.

Police remind the community that under the current Direction, masks are mandatory in shared indoor public places which includes supermarkets. For further information about when you need to wear a mask, please visit https://www.police.sa.gov.au/sa-police-news-assets/covid-19
