Sydney tourists spark Canberra COVID crisis

A group of Sydney tourists has sparked a COVID-19 health crisis in Canberra after it was revealed they were visiting the capital from a Sydney coronavirus hotspot.

ACT Health has confirmed it was notified of a potential breach of COVID-19 travel restrictions after the group, from the Cumberland Local Government Area in Sydney, visited Parliament House and several other national institutions yesterday.

A spokesperson said the incident had been referred to ACT Policing for further investigation.

The group came to the attention of security staff at Parliament House at the conclusion of their guided tour yesterday, when they were asked for their home postcodes.

Seven News has reported that the group visited the Australian War Memorial and spent up to three days in Canberra.
