Second aged care staff member tests positive

One resident and a second staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Arcare Maidstone aged care facility in Melbourne’s north-western suburbs.

It comes after a female staff member at the same aged care home tested positive to the virus over the weekend.

Arcare chief executive, Colin Singh (pictured, right) said the infected resident had received one dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

He said the second staff member had not received her first dose of the vaccine due to being on leave when the vaccinations took place on May 12.

“The resident is displaying mild symptoms however we are transferring them to hospital where their condition can be closely monitored,” Mr Singh said.

“The team members also have mild symptoms and are recovering at home.”

He said 53 of the home’s 76 residents had so far received one dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Second doses were due to be administered to residents tomorrow but, following the confirmation of the positive cases, that has now been rescheduled to take place today.

“All Arcare Maidstone team members are also being offered their first or second dose tomorrow,” Mr Singh said.

“We are closely monitoring our residents and team members for signs and symptoms and a second round of testing will be carried out tomorrow, Tuesday, June 1.

“At this time, there are no other cases of COVID-19 in any of our other residences and we have actively limited the movement of team members between residences and visitation since the stage three lockdown came into effect.”

Victoria case numbers have today reached 54.
