Premier hits road for Queensland ‘Vax-a-thon’

Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk has launched a week-long ‘vax-a-thon’ urging Queenslanders to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Premier said she and her ministers would visit key centres to encourage vaccinations, targeting places where rates are low.

“The more Queenslanders vaccinated, the safer we’ll be,” the Premier said.

“People want to be reunited with their family and friends.”

Those who are fully vaccinated are 86% less likely to contract COVID and pass it on to a loved one, the Premier said.

“The chance of dying from COVID falls by 90% if you are fully vaccinated.”

Queensland’s newly released Vaccination Plan identifies fewer border restrictions as the state reaches 70 and 80% of the eligible population fully vaccinated.

Greater restrictions could also apply to the unvaccinated, the Premier said. For example, venues and events may be able to operate at greater densities if all patrons are fully vaccinated.

“We cannot protect you if you won’t protect yourself,” the Premier said.

“We want families and friends re-united for Christmas. If you are yet to be vaccinated you are running out of time.”
