Visitors to South Australian aged care facilities will no longer be required to wear masks under changes to COVID-19 restrictions announced in the state today.
There are also no longer visitor number limits for residential aged care facilities from 11am today.
The announcement follows the relaxation of wider pandemic restrictions in South Australia yesterday, with Premier Steven Marshall revealing the requirement for people travelling from Victoria to get tested and isolate until negative on arrival would be lifted.
Mask-wearing in public – on public transport and in indoor spaces – will no longer be required and hospitality businesses will again be permitted to allow patrons to stand while drinking.
The restrictions were put in place last Monday, despite the state having no active cases of coronavirus at the time.
“We weren’t wanting to take chances with the escalating numbers right across the country,” the Premier said.
The state recorded five locally-acquired cases last week – their first infections in more than 200 days – after a miner returning from the Northern Territory infected his wife and four children.
