Tasmania’s COVID-19 vaccination program will receive another shot in the arm with an additional 17,550 doses of Pfizer vaccine expected to arrive in Tasmania in the coming week.
Minister for Health, Jeremy Rockliff said the extra doses were part of the Australian Government’s deal to secure an additional 1 million doses for the country, with the majority heading to NSW in light of the current COVID-19 challenges in that state.
“This is very positive news and while our vaccination program continues to proceed well, this will help us get even more Tasmanians vaccinated sooner, bringing us closer to having the majority of our population vaccinated and returning to a more normal way of life,” said Minister Rockliff.
“It will also help us deliver our super-six-week vaccine blitz that is now underway, with more than 5000 appointments at our community clinics across the State in recent days.
“The vaccine remains our number one defence against COVID-19, and with the Delta strain an ever-present threat, our message to Tasmanians remains – don’t wait. Vaccinate.”
